Leil

Leil is another essential component of the sauna experience. Without it, a sauna is just a glorified heated room with benches. The sauna stove is a special kind of stove. There are raised top edges and special stones piled in it. The stones are the size of  a large fist. Stones of this size will warm up quickly and store a good amount of energy in them.

The act of throwing leil is simply a matter of throwing water of dosed quantities onto the stones while sitting on the benches in the heat room. The water will evaporate almost instantly, turning into hot steam and raising to the ceiling in a hissing sound. It then travels across the ceiling and comes down, dissipating throughout the entire heat room.This gush of a heatwave is leil. 

The heat and steam combined are very pleasurable. We talked about humidity control in the heat section. Leil is what brings the humidity up a bit and gives you the nice tingling feeling.
